Penza, 17 April 2016. PenzaNews. A 67-year-old Penza citizen lost 93,000 rubles from his banking card after personally granting a scammer the access to his bank account.

“The man explained that he published an ad on Avito.ru to sell a variety of items. On the next day, he received a call from an unidentified man who said he is willing to buy the goods, and asked the victim to give him the banking card ID and the SMS confirmation codes under the pretext of needing them for an advance payment,” the press service of the Penza region Ministry of the Interior told PenzaNews.

After the seller followed on the unknown man’s instructions, the scammer abused the victim’s gullibility to steal his money, they added.

“The police are identifying the culprits involved in the crime,” the press service said.
