Elderly Penza woman pays 550,000 rubles to fraudsters for removing jinx, “compensation”

Penza, 13 May 2016. PenzaNews. A 69-year-old Penza woman transferred 550,000 rubles to fraudsters for removing a jinx and receiving an alleged compensation that turned out to be a lie.

“In January 2015, the elderly woman saw a TV ad promising to remove a jinx. She called the phone number listed in the ad, and an unidentified woman agreed to help her remove a jinx in several sessions in return for payment. From February to April 2015, the elderly woman transferred a total of 80,000 rubles to a number of unidentified bank accounts,” the press service of the Penza region Ministry of the Interior department informed PenzaNews.
Later in November, the elderly woman received a call from the fraudsters who told her about the deception and promised her a compensation, they added.
“They demanded her to pay them money again, promising the compensation. Over the span of four months, the elderly woman transferred over 470,000 rubles to a number of bank accounts,” the police said.
The investigation of the fraud is currently underway, they clarified.
