Penza, 24 April 2014. PenzaNews. The first stage of the international motor rally through memorial places of Mikhail Lermontov will begin in Penza this Sunday, April 27. On this occasion, a solemn even will take place at 10:00 in Mikhail Lermontov public garden.

The participants plan to go through the places related to the poet – Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories – over the span of two weeks.

The settlements that inspired Lermontov and were reflected in his creations will also not be left aside.

The motor rally participants also plan to visit houses and museums devoted to Lermontov and see about 14 monuments.

According to Denis Simonov, one of the organizers of the motor rally, this event already attracted great attention to itself in the Caucasus region.

“It will be a kind of a procession of friendship which will connect our region and the Caucasus. We will take the flag of Penza region with ourselves, as well as a few books on Mikhail Lermontov that we will try to get signed and then give away to our musums,” – he announced.

Denis Simonov also added that the participants of the expedition plan to bring soil from the memorial places of Mikhail Lermontov to the poet’s grave in the “Tarkhany” State Museum-Reserve.

In his turn, Igor Pantyushov, chairman of Penza regional branch of the Russian Geographic Society, noted that the oncoming event is a perfect example of successful cooperation between public authorities, civil society organizations, businessmen and all concerned citizens.

“We are sure that such expeditions will glorify Penza region and Russia in its entirety,” – he emphasized.

According to the information from the Press Service of the regional government, the second stage of the motor rally is expected to take place in June-July, and its route will come through Leningrad and Moscow Territories, as well as through other regions related to the poet.
