“Railroads are asking for more and more requirements in terms of grants. Right now, it requires over 200 mln rubles, with no intention to cut back. For example, Voronezh has already decided against commuter trains and completely stopped financing them, because the city cannot provide for such grants,” Vasily Bochkarev explained during an expanded press conference that took place on the evening of Tuesday, October 21.

He noted that the heads of the areas that frequently use commuter trains for work transportation within the region have already been notified of the change, and were ordered to create new jobs in their regions where the frequent commuters live.

“I suggested to work through Bessonovo, Gorodische, Penza, Kolyshley and Bekovo areas among other places, and develop the community employment projects so that people would not be harmed when commuter trains shut down. Besides that, I doubt everybody likes waking up for the train at 4 am every day,” the governor said.

He added that new jobs can be created by establishing new enterprises or subsidiary industrial and agricultural organizations in the region.
