The Leninsky area court has announced the sentence of a large case investigated by the Penza FSB department on Friday, April 3.
The court has found that Alexei Agafilov who was heading the Penza Department of Urban Amenities, got acquainted with high-ranking officials in the city administration and has developed a criminal scheme that would allow him to obtain ownership rights to a land plot of 10,402 sq. meters that would normally cost over 31 million rubles.
To do that, he has submitted falsified documents that served as a proof of a nonexistent debt to him from the Penza city administration which that land plot was allegedly covering.
According to the court sentence, Alexei Agafilov has deceived and abused the trust of officials in the city administration and the Arbitration Court of the Penza Region.
The accused has denied being involved in the crime.
The court took into account the fact that Alexei Agafilov has three underage children and had fully recovered the material damages on his own accord.
“Alexei Agafilov is sentenced to a prison sentence of five years with a three-year ban on working on jobs that involve administrative and management deeds in the regional self-government bodies and municipal institutions. Taking into account the alleviating circumstances, the court found that Alexei Agafilov may be brought back to lawful life without having been isolated from the society and called the sentence suspended. The verdict is yet to come in force,” the press service of the Leninsky area court of the Penza region informed PenzaNews agency.
