“We received an incident report at 8.45 of Thursday, December 31. The fireman dispatches were immediately sent to the location. There has been a smoldering area of 10 sq. meters in the attic above the sports hall, supposedly caused by a shortcut circuit failure,” Anna Shupilova, head of information and public relations division of the main EMERCOM department in the region, told PenzaNews agency.

There were no children in the school at the time of the incident, as their studies were already over due to the New Year holidays, she stressed.

“Five staff members were evacuated during the extinguishing process. The incident is still under investigation,” Anna Shupiloca said.
