Over 230 people died over past year on Penza region roads

Penza, 23 January 2016. PenzaNews. 233 people died and 2,762 more received various injuries in the traffic accidents that took place in the Penza region through 2015.

According to statistics by the regional traffic police, the number of traffic accidents went down by 8.1% over the 12 months, with 8.6% less casualties and 9.1% less injured.
However, 211 accidents over the past year involved children under 16, which resulted in 5 dead and 230 injured among people under the age.
255 traffic accidents were caused by drunk drivers, which led to 60 deaths and 359 injured.
599 accidents involved pedestrians, with 59 lethal injuries and 575 varying injuries.
The priorities set for the traffic police are implementing measures to prevent traffic accidents involving pedestrian and children, and maintaining control over the road network during winter.
