However, the City Duma refused to disclose the names of contenders for the mayor's seat, as well as specify their party affiliation.

As news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, on June 5, 2014 it became known that the governor of the Penza region Vasily Bochkarev offered Roman Chernov the post of the first deputy chairman of the regional government.

On June 19, the deputies of Penza City Duma supported the resignation of Roman Chernov.

On June 20, the acting city manager became deputy mayor Larisa Ryabikhina.

On July 7, the acting vice governor Viktor Rubtsov said that Yuri Krivov, who currently is the chairman of the regional government, was nominated to the post of the head of administration of Penza.

According to him, the decision was made by governor Vasily Bochkarev, who “cannot leave a regional center without the head of administration to the mercy of fate and is giving up one of his best employees.”
