Penza, 11 April 2014. PenzaNews. Presentation of new exhibits, showing the contribution of Penza natives in the development of Russian space exploration, was held at the local history museum on Friday, April 11.

The exposition presented objects that belonged to a member of the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics K. Tsiolkovsky, Lieutenant-General Evgeny Volkov, and Soviet space communication systems and management of strategic forces constructor, Lieutenant-General Ivan Meshcheryakov.

A collection of documents and photographs came to the museum thanks to the historian, ethnographer Alexander Volkov.

During the presentation, he noted that Penza residents can be proud not only of art and culture activists who glorified their small home, but also outstanding countrymen related to space exploration.

According to Alexander Volkov, until recently, their work was classified, but it is possible to get to know it better now.

“Our countrymen — Georgy Tyulin, Nikolai Shlykov, Evgeny Volkov, Ivan Meshcheryakov — managed to combine organizational and technical talent. Their contribution to the development of cosmonautics, the creation of space-rocket shield of our country can not be overemphasized,” he said.

The relatives of Ivan Meshcheryakov shared the memories of him.

They also let the museum have a unique exhibit — the medal “For Space Exploration” No. 006 granted to Ivan Mescheryakov.
