Editorship of opposition newspaper “Novaya Alternativa” violated law on mass media

Penza, 17 April 2014. PenzaNews. The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media in the Penza region revealed a violation of Art. 27 of the media law during the monitoring of compliance with the requirements of legislation, conducted against the editorial board of the opposition newspaper “Novaya alternativa” [New alternative].

In particular, the date-line of “Novaya alternativa” did not have specification of the editorial office address, the date of the release, the time of printing, the price or the mark “Open price” or “Free of charge,” as well as the name of the body which registered the media.

Given the evidence, an administrative offense report was filed against the newspaper founder, the responsibility for which is provided in Art. 13.22 of the Code of Administrative Offences.

As news agency “PenzaNews» reported earlier, the first edition of “Novaya alternativa,” published by Penza branch of the Interregional Association of Communists, was released in 10 thousand copies on February 27, 2014.

According to one of the founders of the newspaper Mikhail Yakhkind, the newspaper is focused on politically active reader who holds to opposition views.

The Interregional Association of Communists spoke about the release of opposition newspaper in Penza for mayor and Duma elections 2014 for the first time in August 2013. It was originally planned to publish it under the name “Rabochaya demokratiya” [Workers' democracy]. The first edition was scheduled for September 2013, and then moved to January 2014.
