Penza, 29 July 2014. PenzaNews. 425 cases of poisoning by alcohol-containing products, 195 of them fatal, took place in the Penza region in the first half of 2014.

As the regional department of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being told news agency “PenzaNews,” the total count of these kind of poisonings decreased by 11% compared with last year data, while the number of fatal cases increased by 23%.

“Over the past six months, 370 men and 55 women suffered alcohol poisoning. A total of six cases of acute poisoning were registered among children and teenagers, and one girl died,” the department said.

The Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being of the region added that 69% of the total number of poisoned citizens do not have a job.

“Another 14% are employed, 13% are pensioners, and 2% are homeless. The rest are school, college and university students,” the press service noted.

The department said that alcohol poisoning rates exceed the average regional rates in Penza, Vadinsky, Bessonovsky, Zemetchinsky, Kuznetsky, Kamensky, Nikolsky and Penzensky areas.
