Penza businessman Oleg Totsky sentenced to 2 years in penal colony for fatal accident

Penza, 24 September 2014. PenzaNews. Well-known businessman, chairman of Penza branch of Opora Rossii [Reliance of Russia] Oleg Totsky was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment in a penal colony for the accident resulting in the death of 21-year-old motorcyclist Marat Sharipov and grievous bodily harm of his 24-year-old passenger Ruslan Yakhin.

Sentencing took place in Oktyabrsky district court on Wednesday afternoon, September 24.

According to the correspondent of news agency PenzaNews from the courtroom, the prosecution, as earlier, asked for a sentence of three years imprisonment conditionally, and the defense insisted on Oleg Totsky’s innocence.

The court decision has not come into force yet, and may be appealed within 10-day period.

As news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, in the evening, September 14, 2012 Oleg Totsky performing a U-turn in Prospekt Pobedy St in Penza on a Lincoln car collided with Suzuki-250 motorcycle. As a result of the accident the driver of the motorcycle, born 1991, died at the scene, and the passenger was hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.
