Penza, 15 October 2014. PenzaNews. The country celebrates Mikhail Lermontov’s 200th anniversary this Wednesday, October 15. Numerous anniversary events and programs dedicated to the event have been arranged throughout the year of 2014 as part of the Year of Culture program.
According to official figures, over 270 mln rubles was allocated for the planned anniversary events. These funds were used for building and repair of the culture objects connected to the poet; scientific congresses both in Russia and abroad; theater plays, exhibitions, and a commemorative medal “200th anniversary of M.Y. Lermontov.”
The celebrations will culminated in a large performance of songs to Mikhail Lermontov’s poems at the Bolshoy Theater in Moscow on the evening of Wednesday, October 15.
The Penza region, where the “Tarkhany” State Museum-Reserve is located, has had a large-scale celebration of the 43rd All-Russian Lermontov Poetry Festival that was dedicated to the poet’s 200th anniversary.
The anniversary events for the large audience will take place in “Tarkhany” on Friday, October 17. The Museum-Estate celebration will include theater performance of “The glamour of the days long gone…” and “The Tarkhany Wedding,” as well as training workshops by the masters of the crafts of the past centuries. Andrei Dementyev, a well-known poet, confirmed that he will take part in the anniversary celebrations.
