“Mostly, the work on broadband access was held in the houses of 'Sputnik' and on Clara Zetkin Street, Dolgorukogo Street. In these areas, active construction of high-rise buildings is ongoing, and in Shuist district, there is a whole complex of houses for resettled people from old and dilapidated housing,” the press service of Penza branch of JSC Rostelecom told PenzaNews agency.

The company explained that the construction of fiber-optic infrastructure is based on FTTB technology (Fiber To The Building), which enables newcomers to connect to a full range of telecommunications services, such as a SIP-telephone, high speed Internet access and interactive TV with over 200 channels, including HD.

“Interactive TV also provides a wide range of additional services: 'View management,' 'Video rental,' 'Karaoke' and 'Parental Control',” the press service added.

The company regional office also noted that the optical network meets different needs of apartment building residents.

“For example, homeowners, united in the HOA or working directly with the management company, using special IP-cameras can organize video surveillance at the entrance and around the house — in a car park or a playground,” Rostelecom office explained.

They also clarified that since the beginning of 2014 the operator put into operation over 10 thousand FTTB ports, finalized the modernization of telecommunications infrastructure in apartment buildings of Penzensky area, and optical technology services are currently used by more than 40 thousand families.

As Lev Dyatlov, director of Rostelecom JSC Penza branch noted, each stage of the optical network construction in the region offers a huge potential bandwidth, giving its users the ability to connect to a full package of digital products and services: from high quality Internet access to Interactive TV and advanced multimedia services.

“In addition, modernization of technologies and networks can solve other important city problems. For example, optical infrastructure can be an integral part of the road traffic management system and road safety project,” he said.
