Penza, 26 February 2015. PenzaNews. Rospotrebnadzor has released the results of its air quality tests in the Penza region throughout the year of 2014.

According to information made available on its official website, the department took 954 air quality tests. 0.2% of the results showed deviations from the established hygienic standards.

The overall tendency displays reduction of air test percentages that show deviations from hygienic air standards, from 8.8% in 2012 to 0.2% in 2014.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, the main air pollutants in Penza are carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, formaldehyde, hydrocarbons, dust, and several other elements. Despite that, the state budgetary institution “Penza Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring” included the city in the list of municipalities with low air pollution.

Air control in Penza is carried out in eight streets with heavy traffic: these include Kirova, Pushkina, Gagarina, Ulyanovskaya, Karpinskogo and Litvinova streets, as well as Stroitelei and Pobedy prospekts.

The laboratory tests show deviation from the hygienic standards in terms of suspended solids, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide by 50%.

A total of 480 air quality tests were conducted in the city itself, and 1.7% of them show deviations from the hygienic standards.

Moreover, sanitary protection zones were inspected through 6,109 air tests taken on their borders. Deviations from the standards were registered in 0.1% of the cases.
