Penza, 13 May 2016. PenzaNews. The public transportation enterprises in Penza may experience mass bankruptcies by 2018-202 if no groundbreaking measures are taken to improve the situation in the public trasportation field, suggested Alexei Vlasov, associate professor of the Road Traffic Management and Security Department in the Penza State University of Architecture and Construction.

According to him, Penza, just like other cities, is experiencing a series of issues, such as the downward trend in public transportation passenger volumes, transition of passengers to individual transport, traffic jams, and a lack of skilled drivers.

“If no measures are taken, a further downfall of transportation volumes will be expected, followed by a decrease in numbers of vehicles and a more spaced transportation schedule,” he said during the meeting of the Penza Duma permanent committee on socioeconomic development, industry, transportation, communication and business held on Friday, May 13.

Resolving the current issues requires gathering up-to-date information on the situation at hand and creating a “smart” public transportation system, the PSUAC associate professor noted.

In particular, the situation in the field may be improved through introducing a flexible tariff policy and giving priority right of traffic for public transport on the city roads, Alexei Vlasov thinks.
