Penza, 17 May 2016. PenzaNews. All six recreation zones in Penza that plan to undergo renovations for the summer will reportedly be closed down for swimming activities, announced the head of the city’s Communal Affairs Department Andrei Grishin during the session of the permanent City Duma committee on urban planning, land use and property held on Tuesday, May 17.

As he explained, the final decision will be made later after analyzing all data, including water samples; however, the previous experience already points towards the described result.

According to the information announced at the meeting, the renovation activities that are planned by June 1 include cleaning the water ponds, installing trash boxes and notice banners warning people against deep diving and washing cars in the water, as well as starting campfires; and, if necessary, bringing in fresh sand and installing ice-cream and beverages stands.

Also, the officials planned to install seats in the recreation areas by June 15, and set up baseball fields by June 20.

As Andrei Grishin stressed, only the recreational zones, not the swimming zones adjacent to them, will undergo renovations.

“We must distinguish these two terms from one another. Those [swimming zones] must have water rescue stations and more. Here, we will have only recreation zones. Swimming will be banned there,” explained the head of the Penza city Communal Affairs Department.

Earlier, the city hall announced that six recreation zones would undergo renovations as part of their municipal-public partnership projects: in the GPZ-24 residential area, on Splavnaya street in Akhuny, by the “Zaseka” restaurant pond, on Pavlushkina street, and two more by the Arbekovsky ponds next to the city hospital No. 6.
