Penza, 9 July 2016. PenzaNews. A huge air defense military unit will be relocated to the Leonidovka facility in the Penza region.

“We got a task to complete recruiting of this military unit. We select candidates in accordance with military registration specialties provided by the personnel department,” the head of the municipal department of the Penza region military commissariat  in Zarechny town Igor Ermakov said.

Junior reserve officers, warrant officers and soldiers sergeants are invited to service under contract near ZATO, Gorod-Z reports.

As the news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, the construction of the chemical weapons disposal plant in Leonidovka village of the Penza region started in 2006. In September 2008, complex testing of the technological equipment was conducted in real environments.

During the plant functioning, there have been destroyed 6 thousand 885 tons of chemical warfare agents or 17% of Russian chemical weapons stockpiles.

The last weapon with infective agent was destroyed at the facility on 16 August, 2015.

On 22 September 2015, the official ceremony dedicated to the end of chemical weapons elimination procedures was held in Leonidovka. International observers took part in the event – representatives of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), public officials, representatives of supervision bodies, military personnel, civil staff of the facility, and subcontractors.

On 19 April, 2016 the monument dedicated to the end of the chemical weapons elimination procedures was unveiled on the edge of Penza.
