Penza, 18 August 2016. PenzaNews. According to the prosecutor's office, the number of people injured in road accidents decreased by 7% in the Penza region in the first half 2016 compared to the same period last year.

“Within six months of this year we observe a positive trend to a decrease in the total number of road accidents by 8% — from 852 to 784, and people injured in them by 7% — from 1,143 to 1,059. However, the accidents occurred on the road became more serious: the severity index— the number of deaths per 100 wounded — increased by 8%,” the senior assistant of the head of the regional prosecutor for media relations Svetlana Artamonova told PenzaNews.

According to her, the growing number of accidents registered is in Bashmakovsky, Bessonovsky, Vadinsky, Zemetchinsky, Issinsky, Nizhnelomovsky, Nikolsky areas and in Kuznetsk.

“Over 93% of accidents is caused by drivers,” the agency interlocutor added.

She noted that the number of road accidents involving minors dropped from 81 to 75, and as a consequence, the number of affected children from 86 to 82.
