26 May 2011. PenzaNews. The chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haifa and Northern Israel which represents the larger part of enterprises from Hadera to the border with Lebanon, has imposed mini–boycott on Georgia. According to mass–media, the leadership of the chamber told the organization members that it is dangerous to do business in Georgia. The chamber sent an address to Israeli’s Industry and commerce Ministry to officially call on the industrialists to avoid working in Georgia.

IzRus informs, the chamber made the decision due to the "tradition" of Saakashvili’s government – not to pay the money that belongs to Israeli businessmen. There is an example of $100 million; the Georgian government has to pay to Israeli businessmen Rony Fuchs and Zeev Frenkiel. Moreover there is a complaint filed by unmanned aerial vehicle producer "Elbit" against Georgia, according to which, Georgia has to pay $100 million to the Israeli company.

The Israeli historian and political strategist David Aidelman in the interview with the news agency "PenzaNews" said that the relationships between the two countries were getting worse rapidly: several events had been happened during the last six months that spoilt the friendly terms of the countries.

David Aidelman said, "There is a possibility that the Georgians blame the Israelis for it, but the simple chronological list of events shows that there is a huge fault of the Georgian authorities in the situation".

According to him, on September, 13, 2010 at the attempt of entrance to Georgia the Israeli publicist and public figure Avigdor Eskin was detained and deported. It was made without any explanation that contradicts the Georgian laws.

He said, "The officials talking to him at the airport, when inquired about the reasons of his extradition couldn't give any proper explanations. He arrived on the official invitation to read a series of lectures about the Israeli-Georgian cultural interaction in the Diplomatic Academy. Right after the incident Eskin was besmirched by the Georgian propaganda. On September, 15 by “REAL TV” Avigdor Eskin was called a leader of Muslim extremist group. Meanwhile, Mr. Eskin is a citizen of Israel; he was the youngest teachers of Hebrew, advocate of Zionism and founder of two schools of Kabala. It was also said that he had a tattoo on the chest with an inscription: "I want Georgians’ blood, long live Abkhazia". Also two Israeli businessmen — Fuchs and Frenkiel were enticed and arrested".

Answering the question about what steps are necessary to take for the normalization of the Israeli-Georgian relations, David Aidelman said that firstly it was necessary that "Georgia has to pay the debts and release the creditors from the prison". However he doubted that it would be made by Tbilisi.

He added, "Instead of these things there will be held a charity concert of Georgian music in Jerusalem with the participation of Nani Bregvadze and Vakhtang Kikabidze. People will get there by buses. It is good, but it is not that action which should be undertaken now".

The political scientist said, "I see perfect inadequacy of the Georgian propaganda which persuades itself and has pleasure from its own impudence. It is very difficult for me to see it. Though, I can say once again that the Georgians can blame us of everything. But paraphrasing the statement of a well–known son of the Georgian people, it is possible to state that "saakashvilis" come and leave but Georgia remains".

Journalist of "PenzaNews" talk to the well–known Israeli publicist and the public figure Avigdor Eskin who presented his vision of the situation connected with the announcement of "mini–boycott" to Georgia.

He said, "Our people were on friendly terms throughout hundreds of centuries. It is not a secret that Israel was especially on friendly term with this country after gaining the independence by it. But we couldn't be reconciled by the fact that our weapons will be directed against Russia with which we have a close strategic connexion. After we have let them know it, Saakashvili started actively building up close relationships with Iran. He broke the agreement signed by the government of Georgia and arranged a provocation against two Israeli businessmen. As a result Israel had to impose restrictions on new possible contacts. We would like to improve relations with respected and friendly people of Georgia, but the current tendencies in politics show that there are no reasons for optimism. Saakashvili is under the influence of Iran and Turkey. It seems that he wouldn't stop. Israel policy will be adequate anyway".

Another well–known public figure in Israel and Russia, the rabbi Gregory Kotlyarsaid, "In my opinion the situation is absurd. Everybody knows that Israel has actively cooperated with Georgia the last few years, including the field of military technologies and also diplomatic support of Georgia. The relations between the countries were remarkable. Therefore, two large Israeli businessmen were detained in Batumi in October, 2010 , it shocked Israeli public. The arrested businessmen have considerable influence in the country, they are on friendly terms with many politicians, including president Peres. The Israelis arrived in Georgia under the invitation of the prime minister of the country. And even if there was a bribery attempt, it had certainly been provoked by the Georgian authorities".

Gregory Kotlyar noticed that nowadays the Israeli side undertakes all necessary steps to make the arrested businessmen free.

He said, "The diplomacy worked quietly at the beginning, but it hasn't brought any results. Israel didn't expect such behavior from the friendly country. After the sentence taken out to businessmen in April, 2011, everything became clear: cancellations of the visits of the Georgian officials to Israel, requirements about urgent payment of debts to the Israeli companies, visits of the Israeli businessmen to Abkhazia and etc."

Gregory Kotlyar also added that Georgia undertakes recent attempts to improve the image of the country in the eyes of common Israelis.

He said, "The information reports on how the local Jewish community blossoms in Georgia constantly arrive to Israel.

There should be a free concert under the motto "From Georgia with love" in Jerusalem. But it doesn't work. And it won't work, while the Israeli businessmen are staying in the Georgian prison. The Israeli public, excluding some immigrants from Georgia, is entirely on the side of the arrested men and supports the government steps on restriction of contacts with Georgia. Immediate free pardon of the Israelis and their return home can be the only way out from the current situation. Otherwise, the relationships will continue to go down". called the current situation absurd.

As the Israeli mass-media earlier informed, at the beginning of April the company "Elbit" has submitted the claim to the arbitrary court of Great Britain with the requirement from Tbilisi to pay indemnification at a rate of 100 million dollars. The Georgian authorities didn't pay in 2007 the Israeli company for "Hermes-450" 40 pilot–less flying machines (UAV), explaining it by the absence of money.

Besides, within the limits of the transaction the Israelis gave the Georgians some UAV land stations on information gathering and trained the Georgian military men to use them. At the same time "Elbit" has suffered losses connected with the fact that the Russian authorities refused to purchase the military equipment of this company because of sales of the weapons to Georgia.

According to the points of view of some observers, in the nearest future Georgia can sell pilotless flying machines to Iran or Azerbaijan which are in extremely need of similar arms to pay Israel off. However such actions of the South Caucasian state will negatively affect the Georgian-Israeli relations.
