Penza region takes lead in Volga Federal District in agricultural production growth

Penza, 5 April 2016. PenzaNews. The Penza region has been placed first in the Volga Federal District and sixth in Russia in agricultural production growth in 2015, announced the governor Ivan Belozertsev in his report at the 34th regular session of the regional Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, April 5.

“Our gross agricultural output has exceeded 80 billion rubles,” he clarified.

Moreover, the Penza region is the leader in the VFD in food production growth, Ivan Belozertsev added.

“Over the past year, we achieved good figures in gross production of grain, yield, production of potatoes and vegetables, which I already reported to the Legislative Assembly previously,” the governor said, adding that the gross output of leguminous crops went over 1,7 million tons.

“This is nearly a quarter more than the year before,” the head of the region stressed.

According to Ivan Belozertsev, the gross yield of potatoes went up by nearly 6%, and production of vegetables increased by more than 8%.

“The growth in meat and meat products production is 22.5%, with 82.500 tons produced. The Penza region went ahead for the first place in production in the Volga Federal District. An increase in milk products production is more than 13%. We have doubled our production of cheeses and related foods,” he explained.

The governor pointed out that the aforementioned results were achieved through effective work by agricultural organizations and workers, as well as sizable support from federal and regional budgets.
