Sown areas in Penza region to be increased by 30,000 hectares

Penza, 20 February 2017. PenzaNews. In 2017, it is planned to increase sown areas in the Penza region by 30,900 hectares. This was reported by the regional minister of agriculture Andrei Burlakov at the operational meeting that was held in the regional government on Monday, February 20.

"The increase of sown areas will affect primarily grain crops. We plan to increase the sown area of grain crops to 22,000 hectares including 9,000 hectares of industrial crops: sugar beet [...] – 6,000 hectares, and oilseeds –3,000 hectares," he specified.
The minister also added that this year it is planned to use 50,431 hectares of the land that was not used in agriculture before.
According to Andrei Burlakov, the monthly plan of introducing the land into crop rotation was already created.
"The machines are [...] ready. The readiness is estimated at 95%. Next month it will reach 100%," the minister added.
