In Penza region over 180,000 ha of grass mowed for forage

Penza, 29 August 2017. PenzaNews. Perennial and annual grass crops were mowed in the area of over 180,000 ha for hay, haylage and green fodder in the Penza region. This was reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture.

"Agricultural producers put in storage about 443,000 tons of hay and 281,000 tons of haylage, 9,400 tons of silage, and almost 140,000 tons of straw," the department specified.

The press service added that about 325,000 tons of coarse and succulent fodder were put in storage.

"21.5 centners of forage units per livestock unit was put in storage," the ministry added.

The Ministry of Agriculture noted that according to a wintering plan, 29 centners of forage units of coarse and succulent fodder per livestock unit and 10-12 centners of forage units of grain fodder had to be put in storage.

"According to specialists' calculations, the demand for coarse and succulent fodder will be satisfied in full," the press service summed up.
