“According to preliminary data, the boy had been brought to the hospital through ER with the symptoms of an acute respiratory viral infection. The resuscitation measures undertaken by the doctors did not result in a positive effect. The newborn passed away on the same day. According to preliminary conclusion by a board of experts, the death was caused by generalized viral infection,” Lyudmila Fomina, Senior Assistant of the Head of the Investigative Department of the city Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, told PenzaNews agency.
She pointed out that the child had undergone a scheduled preventive examination in the polyclinic, and the pediatrician found no symptoms of an illness, while the parents themselves had no complaints about the health of the newborn.
“A forensic medical examination will be investigating the reasons behind the death of the child. The pre-investigation check will conclude with a legal evaluation of how timely, fully and skillfully was the medical aid provided to the newborn,” Lyudmila Fomina said.
