“The investigation and the court found that the driver of a KamAZ truck arrived to Lunino village in the afternoon of 18 January 2016 to deliver goods from the local grain elevator, and steered his trailer into the checkpoint gate. The traffic police dispatch that arrived to the scene found that the driver is under the influence, and the latter was subsequently banned from driving the car. In an attempt to evade the administrative penalty for the DUI, the driver, while being in the police office, gave the police department head a bribe of 50,000 rubles, which he placed on the table,” Lyudmila Fomina, senior assistant of the head of the regional Investigative Committee for media relations, told PenzaNews.

The police officer refused to accept the bribe, she noted.

“The court took into account the gravity of the crime, the fact that the accused previously had been punished for extortion and robbery, and for displaying dangerous recidivism,” she explained, adding that the sentence has not yet entered into force.
