“She published an online ad at Avito.ru to sell a baby cot for 2,000 rubles. On the very same day, she received a call from an unidentified person who said he wants to buy it. Under a pretext of transferring an advance payment, the man asked the victim to tell him her credit card credentials and SMS confirmation codes. Shortly after, the unknown man called her again and told her he mistakenly made a transfer of 178,000 rubles to her account, asking to return them. The victim transferred the money to the unidentified man’s credit card, and later found that the alleged erroneous transfer never occurred in the first place,” the press service of the Penza region Ministry of the Interior department informed PenzaNews.
An investigation of the fraud case is underway, the police clarified.
“The police are identifying the culprits involved in the crime,” the press service said.
