“A businessman came to the police and said that two KamAZ trucks parked at the company lot were missing batteries. Later on, we received several claims from other people who reported car battery thefts when their vehicles were parked at the same enterprise, and their stories were similar,” the press service of the Penza region Ministry of the Interior department informed PenzaNews.
The investigators found a link between the thefts and the man in question, who has a long criminal record, they added.
“He was detained, and confessed to the crime. The suspect explained that he stole car batteries between November 2015 and March 2016, explaining them by easy access to the company parking lot, even though it was guarded. He was throwing the stolen car batteries over the fence, coming by with a hire van on the morning after, and selling them to a scrapyard for money,” the law enforcement explained.
The man now faces a criminal case, the police added.
“The police is investigating his possible relation to other crimes in Penza,” the press service clarified.
