Woman transfers money to fraudsters trying to save her grandson from prison in Penza region

Penza, 9 October 2016. PenzaNews. A 68-year-old resident of Serdobsky area of the Penza region lost 10 thousand rubles having fallen for trick of telephone fraudsters.

“An unknown man called the woman’s home number and introduced himself as her grandson. He said that he had hit a man with a car in Moscow and that he needed money to get exempt from the criminal liability. Some minutes later, another man, claiming to be an investigator, called the pensioner, he said that the money should be transferred within 30 minutes,” the press service of the Penza region department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation told PenzaNews.

The department added that the trustful woman transferred the required sum through an ATM to cellular subscriber numbers given by the criminals.

“The fraud is now under examination. The police are taking measures to identify persons involved in the crime,” the department said.
