Penza, 11 January 2018. PenzaNews. A 47-year-old man who received a shot to his groin from a hunting rifle by a drunk resident of the Shemysheisky area of the Penza region after the latter got jealous of his wife's interest in his friend asked the court not to punish the offender too severely. This was reported by the senior assistant of the head of the regional prosecutor for media relations Svetlana Artamonova.

She reminded that the incident had occurred on August 27, 2017.

"58-year-old Gennady Potapov accidentally met with the victim when both were intoxicated. The men decided to continue the conversation at the table and went to the house of Potapovs' spouses. While the husband was away to get more alcohol, the wife asked the guest to help carry sacks of potatoes to the barn. On returning home, the husband saw the two working in the garden and got jealous. He took a hunting rifle and shot the victim to the groin area causing serious harm to the health," the interlocutor explained.

Svetlana Artamonova noted that the proceeding on this case caused a genuine interest among residents of the area, who filled the courtroom.

"In accordance with the position of the public prosecutor, considering the circumstances of the crime and information about the perpetrator, the man was sentenced to three years' imprisonment with serving the sentence in a general penal colony. The verdict entered into legal force," she specified.

The senior assistant of the head of the regional prosecutor added that material evidence in the criminal case including the firearms was ordered to be destroyed.
