Penza, 13 June 2012. PenzaNews. The 41st Russian Lermontov Festival will be held at the State Lermontov Museum – Tarkhany Reserve in the Penza region on Saturday, July 7.

According to the museum, motto of the following festival are the words of Mikhail Lermontov’s poem The Battlefield of Borodino: “Borodino thunders louder than Rymnik or Poltava.”

“This year marks 200 years since the great battle in which, according to Napoleon, “the French showed themselves to be worthy of victory, but the Russians showed themselves worthy of being invincible.” Lermontov’s “Borodino” became a “monument” of valor, military glory, devotion to duty and love for the Fatherland. The highlight of the festival will be a theatrical performance “The battle of Borodino” by a military-patriotic club from Moscow,” explained the museum worker.

Traditionally Lermontov Festival begins with laying of flowers at the grave of the poet. There will be folk bands and a military brass band perfoming in the streets of the village where a craftsmen fair will take place.

Then there will be performance of honorary guests in the Green Theater and Lermontov prizes awarding.

“The prominent figures of Russian culture will attend the festival: poet, honored artist of Russia and USSR State Prize winner Andrey Dementiev; singer, People’s Artist of the USSR and State Prize Laureate Joseph Kobzon; Honored Artist of Russia Said Bugov; singer Marina Devyatova; singer, composer, People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Morozov; singer, laureate of international competitions Sergey Sheremet; poet, writer and translator Mohammed Akhmedov; and writer, essayist, translator from Azerbaijan Vasily Irzabekov,” noted the museum worker.
