Penza, 11 January 2013. PenzaNews. There can be no competition between Penza theaters. This opinion was expressed by the art director of Penza Regional Drama Theater named after A. Lunacharsky Sergey Kazakov at the meeting of the participants of intellectual Park “Academy” on Thursday evening, January 10.

“There exist different formats. For example, our theater seats 950 people, has a small stage, an experimental platform for sophisticated audience. And it would have been a crime against the theater, the artists, and spectators setting a performance for 20 people,” he said.

At the same time, according to Sergey Kazakov, the theater must be different.

“There is a wonderful theater by Natalia Kugel in Penza [Theatre Arts Center “House of Meyerhold”]. What she does is great, and it has the right to exist. But it is a matter of taste — some like it, some do not,” he explained his point of view.

Artistic director of the Penza Drama Theatre also added that the large hall requires giving the performances, which would be pleasing for most viewers.

“There is also an easy way — showing comedies only, but this means death of the theater. We put up risky plays, which are performed in a few places, for example “The wind rustles in the poplars,” Sergey Kazakov pointed out.
