During the solemn opening ceremony, the deputy head of the regional department of culture and archive Kirill Zastrozhny reminded everybody that the book is still a unique source of human wisdom.
“Nothing new has been invented. Knowledge and thoughts of great men are stored in books, regardless of how they are published,” he said.
According to Kirill Zastrozhny, the fair is the second grand event in the reading life of the region in 2013 after All-Russian Library Congress, held in Penza in May.
“Finally, the society represented by the authorities and the population feels the need in reading and family education,” he said.
More than 30 various events are scheduled during the fair. Among them there are photo exhibitions “The Unknown Solzhenitsyn” and “Tracing literary heroes of Mikhail Lermontov,” watching silent films accompanied by music and the concert-presentation “Zarechny is 55!”
In addition, for young readers there will be a presentation of the new album of the Penza poet Viktor Agapov “Grandfather’s tales,” a meeting with Alexei Shevchenko, the winner of the prize of Samuel Marshak, creative workshops – fluffy toys, painted cartoon stories and many others.
The fair will close on Sunday, November 24.
