“This memory play written in 1944 is one of the most renown and, perhaps, one of the most touching creations of the established classic playwriter of the 20th century, who is often called ‘The American Chekhov.’ The story of solitude, love and broken dreams is directed by Evgenia Nikitina, a young stage director from Saint-Petersburg. She is well-known for her work not only in her native city, but also in the theaters of Samara, Tyumen and Dimitrovgrad,” told agency PenzaNews Vitaliy Sokolov, head of literary and dramatic department of Penza Drama Theater.

He pointed out that the role of Tom Wingfield, who narrates the play, is assigned to Yuri Zemlyanskiy.

“His sister Laura, who lives in her own fragile imaginary world, is played by Elena Pustovalova. Their mother, Amanda, absorbed by the thoughts about the family’s former prosperity and her children’s future, will be played by Albina Smelova. Jim O`Connor, Tom’s co-worker and Laura’s high school acquaintance, will be played by Nikolai Potapov,” said the interlocutor to the agency.

Vitaliy Sokolov added that the premiere is set on the beginning of June.

“The play will be shown on the theater’s second stage,” he pointed out.

Head of literary and dramatic department also reminded that the first stage is taken by the rehearsals of another play that was not shown before. It is a children’s play “The Puss in Boots,” which the younger audience will be able to see on May 25.
