Exposition of works by local craftswoman opened in Penza regional museum of local lore

Penza, 22 May 2014. PenzaNews. Exposition “Magic of the skillful hands” was opened in Penza state museum of local lore.

It was prepared for the 80th anniversary of the local craftswoman Vera Vasilenko.
“The exposition introduces visitors to different techniques of embroidery, forgotten traditions of manufacturing caskets and tailoring of late XIX - early XX centuries. In addition, guests can appreciate dolls in national costumes of the Penza region and paintings, embroidered in oriental style,” the administration of Penza state museum of local lore told news agency “PenzaNews.”
Vera Vasilenko (Shpigel) was born in Leningrad in 1934.
In 1941, together with kindergarten children and staff she was evacuated to the Kirov region, and after WWII she lived with her mother in Samarkand.
In 1952 she entered Uzbekistan State University, majoring in Mathematics.
In 1962 she moved to Penza, worked as a programmer in Penza Institute of Mathematical Machines and factory of computing machinery.
In 1990 she retired.
She has been interested in needlework since childhood, but came to grips with the work only after retirement.
