“The production director of the two-act tragedy is Valery Belyakovich, the People’s Artist of Russia. The Penza public have first seen the play this January. It will open the new theater season on Thursday, September 4,” he said.

In his turn, the theater’s artistic director Sergei Kazakov said that a historical drama “Vadim,” based on the novel by Mikhail Lermontov, will be the first premiere of the season.

“This performance is staged by Denis Husniyarov, a young director from St. Petersburg. He has already worked with Lermontov’s pieces. In Omsk, he staged the play ‘Lermontov. Premonition’ based on several of the poet’s works,” the artistic director said, adding that the audience will see the first performance of “Vadim” on September 22.

He added that the new season will see several more premieres.

“On the second state of the theater, we plan to show a piece ‘Is it easy to get married in Penza?’ by a modern Moscow playwright Elena Isaeva. If all goes well, this stage will also show ‘Kuprin’ — a joint project with the literary museum. By the end of the year, we will show a comedy ‘Petite’ by Jean de Letraz, and after the New Year, ‘Tristan and Isolde,’ as well as ‘Sevastopol waltz,’ a large project dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. It is a music and dance performance staged by a remarkable choreographer and director Alexei Zykov,” Sergey Kazakov explained.
