“I am very glad that the new play about Lermontov’s grandmother was read through in Penza. It is already decided that this play will become a pert of the Penza Drama Therater’s repertoire,” Grigory Zaslavsky said at the conclusion of the festival on October 7.

Discussing the festival’s organization level, the “Masquerade” jury member and artistic director said he was impressed by the team led by the artistic managing director Sergei Kazakov that had prepared the event.

“We arrived to Tarkhany today, and the weather was absolutely wondrous. I don’t believe in omens and signs of fate, but here it seemed to me that it was Lermontov saying thanks for a sincere attempt to give him a second life,” Grigory Zaslavsky said.

He stated that he liked all the presented theater pieces, and the festival was very interesting as a whole.

“What is even more important than the quality of the theater pieces is that ‘Masquerade’ gave is some food for thought. It is also very great that no theater arrived only for half a day to quickly set up the décor and then just gather up and leave after the play. Many had an opportunity to see the performance of their colleagues,” the critic concluded.
