Penza to clean up monuments, adjacent territories on April 17

Penza, 16 April 2015. PenzaNews. The city of Penza will hold the campaign “Preserve Historical Monuments and Sculptures” on Friday, April 17.

During the campaign, the citizens, including workers of cultural institutions of Penza and towns, will clean up monuments, portrait sculptures, steles and sculpture groups, as well as improve adjacent land.
“Currently, Penza has 239 monuments, 168 of which are considered to be objects of cultural heritage. This list includes monuments, graves of prominent people, buildings, houses, constructions and sights,” the press service of the city administration informed PenzaNews agency.
According to them, the campaign is arranged to coincide with International Day for Monuments and Sites observed on April 18.
“In the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, the city Department of Culture has updated the list of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, full cavaliers of the Order of Glory, and Heroes of Russia, and the table of memorial constructions and WWII plaques to be repaired and improved by May Nine,” the press service stressed.
