Penza, 13 May 2015. PenzaNews. The Penza residents will have an opportunity to experience the jazz of 100 years ago, at the peak of its popularity, during the music festival “Jazz May” that will take place on the square by the Regional Philharmonic Hall on May 15-17.
“This year the musical program is very intense – nothing to feel shabby about. Instead of inviting foreign stars of the second and third-tiers, we brought the first-class stars,” the producer of the festival “Jazz May” Oleg Rubtsov said during a press conference held on Wednesday, May 13.
According to him, there will be such bands as the quartet of Igor Butman; a large jazz orchestra directed by Peter Vostokov who are restoring the big bands’ scores of the early XX century; and the quintet of Alexei Bekker, who will perform the remixes of the classics by Alexander Scriabin and Sergei Prokofiev.
“Moreover, I’d like to remind you that we have as many as two jazz organists in our festival program this year. Most other festivals can only dream of featuring organ jazz,” the producer noted.
He added that during the three days of the festival the open air event area will welcome young jazz bands from Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Penza, who were specially selected.
“Also this year, the show-bar “Charlie Gold” will house a jam session with the participants of the festival, where they will recreate the authentic atmosphere of a jazz club,” Oleg Rubtsov stressed.
In turn, the representative of the organizing committee of the festival Olga Pripisantseva noted that, traditionally, the festival program will be expanded with the art spaces.
“The festival site will have an area with hot and cold drinks, where one can buy a proper meal or a snack. Sweet tooth will find ice cream and delicious donuts there,” she specified.
According to her, there will also be an art market, the masters of which have been selected, and plenty of photo areas.
As Anna Zavyalova, member of the “Jazz May” organizing committee, informed that this year, like the previous one, they will organize a postcrossing area.
“Postcrossing is when people exchange postcards. The postcards were specially made for the festival. It is a kind of jazz-themed improvisation. Anyone will be able to send a postcard to friends and relatives in other cities and countries with “Jazz May” note,” she said, noting that last year over 100 cards were sent during the festival.
Talking about some other features of the upcoming event, Anna Zavyalova explained that the festival site will be equipped with a separate garbage collection zone.
“People will see a lot of labeled garbage boxes,” she specified, adding that the residents can bring their used batteries for proper disposal.
