The committee is focused on the progress of the federal target program “Destruction of Chemical Weapons Stockpile in the Russian Federation,” which includes implementation of measures to create social infrastructure in areas where objects falling within the scope of the program are located.
In addition, they will discuss the opportunities in making use of the facilities used for chemical weapons storage and elimination after the program finishes.
“In the Penza region, the chemical weapons elimination measures on the Leonidovka facility, kept in store from the 1950s to 1986, were finished in September 2015. In 2016-2020, the properties of the Leonidovka village complex will undergo sanitation, including detoxification and destruction of certain rooms and equipment, including some infrastructure. After these measures, the facilities will be used to facilitate economic development in the Penza region. The Leonidovka industrial area was included in the active base of regional investment zones for further promotion to potential investors,” the press service of the Penza region government commented for PenzaNews agency.
