“Tarkhany” to host conference dedicated to 175th anniversary of Lermontov’s death

Penza, 19 September 2016. PenzaNews. International conference devoted to the 175th anniversary of the death of Mikhail Lermontov, will be held in the State Museum-Reserve “Tarkhany” in Belinsky area, the Penza region, on September 27-28.

On the first day of the event, the gathered will lay flowers on the grave of the poet and then hold a plenary meeting. Within its framework, the participants will present papers on the history of the poet's burial, the value of Lermontov’s work for Tolyatti residents, the eastern tale “Three Palms” and Orthodoxy.
On the second day, four sections will be open.
The first one deals with the problems of inter-civilizational understanding, poet’s traditions in creating the character’s image in Vladimir Makanin’s novel “Underground, or a hero of our time,” the motif of masks and masquerade in the lyrics and the drama of Mikhail Lermontov and Alexander Blok, and other topics.
The second section will consider the reports of “Existential Psychology of crimes in Mikhail Lermontov’s work,” “Lermontov vs. Lermontov, or the lyrical hero in the fight against the Demon,” “Body and spirit of the hero in “Mtsyri,” “By Kokushkin Bridge: Entering fantastic space of “Shtoss,” “Lermontov's theme in the works of A. Khrabrovitsky.”
The third section will discuss the topics: “In search of Arbenin: “Masquerade” in TSATRA (director L. Heifetz),” “Masquerade:” Remembering the future. Lermontov and Meyerhold in the eyes of contemporary theater,” “The works of Mikhail Lermontov in the silent movie,” “On the 40th anniversary of Mikhail Lermontov house-museum in Taman: Stanislav Rostotsky film “Hero of Our Time.”
During the fourth section, the participants will be presented the following reports: “Studying the biography of Mikhail Lermontov's development as a way to interest students in reading,” “Taman Church of the Intercession of the first half of the XIX century. Temple Icons,” “Powerful, spirited tribe. On the 75th anniversary of the Siege of Leningrad,” “Self-portraits of Mikhail Lermontov.”
The conference will gather the representatives of Togliatti, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tula, Penza, Ekaterinburg, Lermontov village and Taman, as well as researchers from Kharkov and Tokyo, “Tarkhany” Museum-Reserve website informs.
