Addressing participants of the event, director of the Penza art gallery Kirill Zastrozhny said that the institution had received those canvases for a while as part of an exchange for works by Robert Falk.

“I think that we will continue this cooperation in 2021, and will please the art community more than once,” he said.

Kirill Zastrozhny also noted the symbolism of organizing such an exhibition on the eve of the 110th anniversary of the foundation of the Jack of Diamonds group of artists.

In turn, the head of the gallery’s exposition department, Nina Santalova, focused on how organically the paintings delivered to Penza fit into the existing collection of the Russian avant-garde.

“Of course, the appearance of two works of great Russian avant-garde artists is a significant event for the Penza art gallery,” she stressed.

According to her, the canvases of Alexander Kuprin and Vasily Rozhdestvensky are examples of complex and controversial art that continues to provoke disputes and does not lose its relevance.

It is expected that the works will be in Penza until April 2021.
