Penza, 2 November 2012. PenzaNews. Over 785 thousand residents of the Penza region became Megafon subscribers for 9 years of work in the region.

According to the press service of the company, currently it is the largest customer basis of service providers operating in the regional market, and it continues to grow.

“Most of the new connections are provided by the sales of devices with SIM-cards with the Internet access. The mobile Internet service is used by almost 250 thousand subscribers,” the press service explained.

According to the director of the Penza branch of Megafon Alexei Bryukhachev, for the past five years the company has been actively engaged in the development of the mobile Internet, and now the service has become available and very popular.

“This is an important result for us. 30% of urban and 40% of rural subscribers use our mobile Internet. Over the past two years the consumption of Internet traffic per subscriber has doubled and now stands at an average of 4,6 GB per month. The average monthly bill for the mobile Internet went down by 1,5 times. This shows the growing availability of the service,” he noted.

The Internet access for the residents of the Penza region is provided by over 700 base stations of the second and third generation, as well as 720 km of fiber-optic communication lines.

“Almost half of all base stations are installed outside the major cities, which is important in cases of total lack of wire-connection and the Internet in small communities,” explained the press service of the company.

According to the operator, Megafon provides its services to the majority of corporate customers in the Penza region, and 70% of them also use the mobile Internet.

In addition, Megafon is implementing a number of socially important projects in the field of Internet services.

“This year, the operator has equipped ambulance vehicles with special SIM-cards to connect to the control center and hospitals, provided the network resources for rapid transmission of information about the state of the patient. In 2011, Megafon organized Wi-Fi hot spots in 24 trolleybuses in Penza. For four years, mobile literacy classes have been held for students, in which specialists talk about the basic rules of mobile ethics, online security and how to resist cyber-fraud,” the press service added.
