Penza, 18 December 2012. PenzaNews. The results of the socio-economic development of the Penza region in 2012 were announced by the governor Vasily Bochkarev during a meeting with representatives of the regional leading media on Tuesday, December 18.

“I would like to have industry indices higher than we have. Last year, this figure exceeded 17%, and we were leading in the Volga Federal District. This year, the figure is 10,4% which places us second in the district,” the governor said.

According to Vasily Bochkarev, to increase wages and amount of taxes collected we require higher indices of growth.

“Good growth is observed in the construction and production of meat — around 16%, as well as in production of eggs — around 10%,” Vasily Bochkarev noted.

He suggested that in 2012, there was a failure in the agricultural sector in terms of grain production.

“Some say the reason is the drought, like in 2010. However, that was not that kind of drought. Some farmers learned their lesson and got decent yields. An example of this can be found in Spassky area, where a private land owner harvests much more than the average figures in the region due to new technologies,” said the head of the region.

Vasily Bochkarev added that the task in 2013 is achieving better results.

“We need to actively engage in the cultivation of maize, which fodder supplies. This year, the increased production of vegetables, especially potatoes, was observed. I believe that next year it is possible to achieve even better results,” he concluded.
