Penza, 2 September 2013. PenzaNews. Agricultural producers of the Penza region do not engage in dairy farming sufficiently to develop it more actively. This opinion was expressed by governor Vasily Bochkarev during an operational meeting in the regional government on Monday, September 2.

“Today we have no other project except, say, take a bull-calf, fatten it and then sell. No one wants to keep cows today. And when there is no cow — there is no bull-calf. It’s like when there is no family — there is no child,” he said.

According to Vasily Bochkarev, in this situation the ministers responsible for agriculture, economy and investment are not taking any serious steps to solve the problems in the development of livestock farming.

“We need to decide what can be done in order to change the density of farms and cooperatives. We need to find those people who keep dairy herds and discuss with them what should be done to involve other farmers in cattle breeding. In addition, we must consider the support in terms of purchasing cows, milking machines, establishing milk processing procedure. Each area should have a system of incentives,” the governor noted.

He also stressed that the officials responsible for the development of the economy of the Penza region should visit the area more actively to learn the experience of the most successful entrepreneurs and spread it.

“We must discuss these issues on the spot,” the head of the region summed up.
