Penza, 7 February 2014. PenzaNews. Eleven young singers from Penza, one of whom is in reserve, are preparing to perform as part of Sochi joint Russian children's choir conducted by Valery Gergiev.

It is expected that the students of musical schools will become participants of the concert program at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games, which will take place on February 23.

As the chairman of the presidium of the city branch of the International Union of Musicians Svetlana Turomshina, who was in the jury committee selecting the singers, pointed out, many children who are to go to Sochi, are the winners of various vocal competitions.

“We are very pleased that the Russian choir has a large group of representatives from our city,” she said.

In turn, the head of city department of culture Vera Feygina added during a meeting with members of the choir on Friday, February 7 that these singers have already won a victory at the Olympics.

“We want to congratulate the children, their parents, teachers and music schools for their excellent guidance. I wish you success, and the teachers — new talented and grateful students,” she said.

Vera Feygina presented the students with a book “Penza chronograph” published for the 350th anniversary of the city.

The children's choirs audition took place in Penza in October 2013.

One thousand children were selected from all over the country.

On January 3-10 the first rehearsal of the joint Russian children’s choir was held in St. Petersburg. One of them was visited by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

The first concert of the joint Russian children's choir will take place at the Mariinsky Theatre on January 8.
