New analogue of camelina to be grown in Penza region

Penza, 28 March 2014. PenzaNews. New “Crumb Abyssinian” oilseed will be cultivated in the fields of the Penza region in 2014. This was announced by the minister of agriculture of the region Andrei Burlakov during a press conference on Friday, March 28.

“Penza research institute of agriculture is registering the cultivar. This is new crops for our region. We are going to grow four tons of crops on about 200-250 ha. “Crumb Abyssinian” is oriented to the production of industrial oil,” Andrei Burlakov said.
He noted that the potential of this type of crops is around two times higher than winter camelina.
“It gives more sprouts per 1 ha. And the energy quality of oil exceeds that of camelina. This is relevant for us. Given the fact that our region is part of a pilot project on biofuels, and this market is developing rapidly, we expect that in the coming years we will be able to increase the acreage substantially,” the minister of agriculture added.
