Breeding and genetic center for turkey egg production may be created near Penza

Penza, 24 April 2014. PenzaNews. The first breeding and genetic center for commercial production of hatchable turkey eggs in Russia may be created in Penza region. This was announced Vladimir Fisinin, vice-president of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and director of Russian Poultry-Breeding Society during his meeting with the governor Vasily Bochkarev which took place in the regional administration on Thursday, April 24.

He explained that the execution of the project will help avoid buying breeding stock from abroad.
“Penza region has enough agro-industrial potential and is placed eighth in Russia by table poultry production,” Vladimir Fisinin pointed out.
He specified that approximately 300-500 ha of land is needed to implement the project which will cost approximately 3 bln rubles.
“The infrastructure complex will include a hatchery, rearing buildings and spaces for genetic baseline management. It is important to isolate the center from other poultry production facilities due to sanitary requirements,” Penza region Government Press-Center quoted the President of Russian Poultry-Breeding Society.
