“I know you have good connections with colleagues in the Volga Federal District. Maybe you could initiate what we tried to do a few years ago — to return to the development of a kind of balance within the district. Northern regions of the Volga Federal District experience the lack of crops for cattle food production,” Vladimir Volkov told Andrei Burlakov, the Minister of Agriculture of the Penza region, during the regional government session which took place on Thursday, July 24.

Vladimir Volkov also added that implementing this project would allow local agricultural producers to get long-term contracts.

Andrei Burlakov found the proposal interesting.

“Besides, we expect to see the record of 2008 and grain production of 108-110 million tons in Russia as a whole, with domestic consumption of about 70 million tons,” he said.

As a reply to that, Vladimir Volkov said that the Penza region will not be able to compete with its grain on the export markets.

“Therefore, the north of the Volga Federal District is a very good market,” he concluded.
