Penza, 3 October 2014. PenzaNews. The Penza region agrarians are completing potato harvesting. As the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture told news agency “PenzaNews,” at the moment, the area of 38,8 thousand hectares has been processed.

“549,3 thousand tons are harvested. The average yield of the area is 142 quintals per hectare,” the department added.

The ministry clarified that in the commodity sector — agricultural organizations, cooperatives and farms — potatoes were harvested from the area of 4,4 thousand hectares with the yield 72,2 thousand tons.

“According to these data, we are going ahead of the last year. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the region, a year ago in the commodity sector agricultural producers harvested potatoes on 1,7 thousand hectares with the yield 24,6 thousand tons,” the press service clarified.

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Penza region noted that in 2014, the expected gross yield of potatoes in the commodity sector is 80 thousand tons.
