Penza region expects 1 mln 400 thousand ton grain harvest

Penza, 20 October 2014. PenzaNews. The Penza region expects to harvest approximately 1,400 thousand tons of grain during the 2014 harvest campaign, said Andrei Burlakov, the minister of agriculture of the region, during the briefing session of the Penza region government that took place on Monday, October 20.

“The harvest campaign is coming to a close, and we only have to harvest 17 thousand ha of corn in the grain department. We plan to finish it in a week,” said the head of the regional Ministry of Agriculture.
He added that a total of 214,000 tons of sunflower and 1 mln 226 thousand tons of sugar beet was harvested this year.
“We still have 7.5 thousand ha of sugar beet left to be harvested, it will take around 10 days,” Andrei Burlakov remarked.
According to him, a total of 401 thousand ha of winter crops have been planted this year.
